I walked down the street to my car, and I had a bag full of stars. And I knew exactly I gotta do, Cause it's too late to be stuck in this town for two. Eighty-five from state to state to state Nine to five I don't contemplate Sleep alone under ribbon-starry skies. And I ran as fast as I could, to that spot we once found. But I couldn't find no place, I stopped, I sang Please don't tell.

When my time is through, I hope my friends sing a song or two.

I wake up every morning and try oh so hard, not to wake the slumber give it the time it needs to start.

Rain washed down the valley, took me from my family. Now I walk on and wonder when I"ll feel my mother's arms holding me again. My girl, she writes me letters. Says she loves me always and ever. Now I walk on and sing her name, she's my sweet tea, my Katie Mae. Warm breeze wakes me up early. Sings me a mountain melody. California, I wish you well. Will I return-to-ya? Only time will tell.
